Jamaica News, Kingston: 37 persons were reported to have been left homeless after a fire of unknown origin completely destroyed six family homes in downtown Kingston on Monday afternoon, May 28.

It is reported that shortly after 3:30 p.m., residents living at a section of the area known as Chancey Lane, saw fire coming from a large concrete and board structured building and raised an alarm.

The Fire Department was alerted and upon arrival, a large team of over fifteen firefighters attacked the blaze. It took them over one hour to get the fire under control which had already spread to five other buildings, three of which were located on a Tenement settlement.

All six houses and their contents were completely destroyed and this resulted in a total of over thirty-seven (37) individuals which included over a dozen children and elderly persons homeless.

The firemen and the police who have still not determine the cause of the fire stated that, the houses were not insured and they cannot determine an estimate for the damages at this time.
