Police have confirmed that two men were shot dead in Greenpond, St James yesterday following a robbery at Westgate Hills near Montego Bay in the parish.

In a release Tuesday morning, the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU)
Reported that two men were shot dead in Greenpond, following the quick response of police and soldiers to a multi-million-dollar robbery at Westgate Hills.
The report said: “The quick response of the St. James Police and members of the Jamaica Defence force has resulted in the recovery of cash and the seizure of an illegal firearm…”
Two men, who were suspected to be a part of a group of men who committed the robbery, engaged the security forces in a gun battle and were fatally shot.
According to police, about 12:35 p.m., members of the security forces responded to reports of a robbery in the Westgate Hills area. The suspects were intercepted in Greenpond in the parish and they reportedly opened fire at the lawmen. The attack was repelled and two unidentified men were later found with gunshot wounds. A semi-automatic pistol and a quantity of cash were seized from the men.
