Kingston, Jamaica — A major joint operation between the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) and the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) led to the seizure of 16 illegal firearms and more than 250 rounds of ammunition at a warehouse on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston on Wednesday.
According to official reports, at approximately 10:27 a.m., the JCA was conducting a routine security screening when irregularities were detected within a shipment. The FNID was subsequently alerted, and a detailed search of the container revealed a cache of 16 pistols, 259 rounds of ammunition, and 25 magazines, all concealed within the shipment.
Acting Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patrae Rowe, Director of the FNID, praised the operation as a significant step in the fight against gun trafficking in Jamaica.
“This seizure is another reminder of the continued work being done to secure the Jamaican borders against illegal items,” said SSP Rowe. “Every illegal firearm removed from circulation represents lives that are saved and puts us a step closer towards a safer Jamaica.”
He emphasized the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to disrupt the illegal trade of firearms and narcotics. “We will continue to pursue individuals involved in the trafficking of firearms and narcotics to further enhance the safety and security of citizens,” Rowe added.
Investigations into the origin and intended recipients of the shipment are ongoing.
This latest seizure highlights the persistent threat posed by illegal arms trafficking in Jamaica and the critical role of inter-agency collaboration in national security operations.
