Manchester, Jamaica: Student Fatally Shot by Police – The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has launched a full investigation into the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old student and the wounding of his brother during an alleged high-speed chase with the police in Williamsfield, Manchester, on Sunday.
The deceased student has been identified as Mikhail Simpson, also from Manchester.
Reports indicate that around 5:00 pm, a team of officers was conducting a spot check in Kendal district when they signaled the driver of a white Toyota Mark X to stop. The driver failed to comply and sped off towards Williamsfield, prompting a police pursuit.
The officers intercepted the vehicle near the Williamsfield train line, but the driver refused to stop and crashed into a motor truck. The vehicle sped off again, and its occupants allegedly opened fire at the police. The police, taking evasive action, managed to stop the Toyota Mark X outside an establishment near Hope Village.
According to the police, two men reportedly exited the car and allegedly opened fire before escaping, while a third man was found inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
INDECOM reported that no firearm was recovered from the scene.
