14-Year-Old Girl Dies After Alleged Drowning by Mother in Florida

Osceola County, FL — A 35-year-old mother, Kelsey Glover, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery following the death of her 14-year-old daughter. The tragic incident occurred at their home in Osceola County, Florida, when witnesses reported seeing Glover holding the girl’s head underwater in a bathtub, according to authorities.

Deputies responded to a call about an armed disturbance at the residence late Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers discovered Glover attempting to strike a witness with a hammer as the altercation continued inside the home. Witnesses told police they saw Glover submerging her daughter’s head underwater in the bathtub, and that the girl appeared unresponsive.

“She was holding her daughter’s head underwater in the bathtub,” said Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez during a press conference. “Witnesses tried to intervene but were unsuccessful. Eventually, Ms. Glover began attacking and chasing these witnesses around the house with a hammer.”

The police report states that officers had to wrestle with Glover to remove the hammer and take her into custody. The 14-year-old girl, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Sheriff Lopez confirmed that a medical examiner’s report is pending to determine the official cause of death, which will guide whether the charges against Glover are upgraded. Currently, she faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

Authorities have not yet revealed what led to the incident, though Lopez mentioned that Glover had been “uncooperative” with investigators. The sheriff also confirmed that Glover had a history of domestic issues, including a prior alleged incident in which she was accused of battering the girl’s father. The father had reportedly obtained an injunction against her as a result.

At the time of the incident, there were four people in the home: Glover, the victim, another child, and a person who resides with them, according to police.

Detectives have opened a homicide investigation, and Sheriff Lopez expressed the community’s shock and grief over the tragedy. “It’s a dark day when things like this happen,” Lopez said. “What happened to her is unimaginable, and we are determined to get justice.”
