Marcus Garvey Statue Vandalized

Garvey Statue At UWI Vandalised

St. Andrew, Jamaica (McKoy’s News)- Garvey Statue At UWI Vandalised: The bust of National Hero Marcus Garvey, erected at the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies in August, was vandalised two nights ago.

The statue, which was installed in August, had been meant to calm the public following their outcry over one previously erected at the University.

Images posted online overnight show the bust splattered with yellow paint and bird feathers with a sign stating ‘NOTICE: TAKE DOWN THIS FAKE STATUE. OCT 17, 2017’.

Raymond Watson sculpted both pieces.
