Zones of Special Operations in Mt. Salem, St James and Denham Town, Kingston Extended

Jamaica Crime News: The Lower House has granted an extension of the Zones of Special Operations in Mount Salem, St James and Denham Town, Kingston.

The anti-crime measure was due to expire on August 16 in Mount Salem and September 4 in Denham Town.

However, the house decided to take the motion for an extension Tuesday as Parliament took recess for the traditional two-week break.

PM Holness Signs CARICOM Agreements

In agreeing to the extension, the opposition spokesperson for National Security, Fitz Jackson, warned the government that this better be the last time they request for such move.

He said drastic crime-fighting tools such as these must not be normalized and urged the government to implement long-term measures such as rolling out more CCTVs across Montego Bay, St James.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness in defending his administration’s use of the crime measure said, the security forces had dismantled gangs, disarmed the triggermen and had significantly halted murders in both communities.
