Dacia Forrester, who sustained severe burn injuries during a confrontation at a gas station in Whithorn, Westmoreland, has died.
Hospital sources confirmed that Forrester passed away on Thursday night while receiving medical care. She had remained hospitalized since the February 19 incident, suffering third-degree burns to approximately 70 percent of her body.
Preliminary reports indicate that Forrester and her sister went to a service station where a dispute developed involving a pump attendant. During the confrontation, Forrester was reportedly splashed with a flammable liquid and subsequently caught fire.
Individuals at the scene are said to have put out the flames before arranging emergency transport to a medical facility.
Police have charged 30-year-old Collate Swaby, a pump attendant from Old Road in Whithorn, with assault occasioning bodily harm in connection with the incident.
Relatives of the deceased previously expressed concern that public commentary surrounding the case had been overly critical and unfair to Forrester.
