ST JAMES, Jamaica — A woman was rushed to hospital on Wednesday night after neighbours rescued her from a burning house in Saigon, Barrett Town, St James.
According to reports, the woman was found with a wound to her throat amid allegations that she had been sexually assaulted before the house was set ablaze.
Neighbours reportedly forced their way into the burning building and pulled her to safety before police arrived.
Officers from the Barrett Town Police Station transported the woman to hospital. Her condition has not been disclosed.
Firefighters from the Jamaica Fire Brigade responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, which gutted the upper section of the building where the woman lived. The lower section, which housed a shop, sustained less damage.
Police are continuing their investigations into the incident.
