Police have launched an investigation into a deadly early-morning shooting in Patrick City, St Andrew, which left a 26-year-old woman dead and her mother nursing gunshot wounds.
The deceased has been identified as Maya Ashley. Her mother remains hospitalised following the attack.
Reports from law enforcement indicate that around 4:45 a.m. on Friday, the two women arrived at their residence on Appleton Avenue after the younger woman reportedly collected her mother from the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
Moments after their arrival, loud explosions were heard in the area. The women were later found suffering from gunshot injuries.
They were both transported to hospital for treatment. Ashley later succumbed to her injuries, while her mother was admitted for medical care.
Investigators have revealed that the husband of the injured woman is being sought as part of ongoing enquiries. Police have also indicated that the assailant may be known to the victims, though multiple leads are still being actively pursued.
