Little London, Westmoreland — A tragic domestic incident unfolded at the Maisemure Housing Scheme on Thursday night, leaving a woman dead and a police officer under investigation.
The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Jenese Francis, a hairdresser of the Albany Housing Scheme, also located in Little London. The alleged shooter is her boyfriend, a detective constable attached to the Morgan’s Bridge Police Station. Reports indicate that the two shared a child.
According to preliminary reports, around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, an altercation developed between Francis and the officer. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the officer drew his service weapon and opened fire, fatally wounding Francis at the scene.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a formal probe into the shooting, as part of standard procedures involving police-involved fatalities.
INDECOM officials are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
This latest case has reignited calls for greater scrutiny and accountability regarding domestic violence, particularly involving law enforcement officers.
