Westmoreland Taxi Operator Killed by Armed Robbers

Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: A Westmoreland taxi operator who decided not to hand over his day’s earning to two armed robbers, was shot and killed by the two armed men along a section of the roadway in Savanna-la-mar on Monday morning, May 27.

The deceased has been identified as Raymond Tennant, 34-year-old taxi operator also of a Savanna-la-mar address.

Reports by the Savanna-la-mar police are that about 8:20 a.m. on Monday, Tennant who operates his Toyota motor vehicle as a taxi along the Savanna-la-mar to Negril Route, was travelling along a section of the roadway known as New Market Oval when he was approached by the two men.

The men demanded money and when their demands were not met, they brandished firearms and opened fire hitting Tennant to the rejoins of his body. The armed robbers then escaped in the area on foot.

The police were summoned and upon arrival, the wounded taxi operator was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
