Westmoreland, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Westmoreland Suspect Taken into Custody: The police in the parish of Westmoreland told Mckoys News Reporters that one man has now been taken into police custody in connection with the shooting and illegal firearm seizure in the parish on Monday, September 18, 2017.
The police further stated that the suspect was held in the parish of St Elizabeth on Monday afternoon after he turned up at the Black River Hospital with bullet wounds and made a report that he had been shot in the crossfire between the police and gunmen in Sav-la-mar earlier that day.
Investigators said the name of the suspect is being withheld pending further investigations, however, it is believed that he was among a group of armed men who challenged the police in a shootout which resulted in the seizure of an illegal firearm on Monday morning.
Reports are that shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, a group of heavily armed men went to several houses located in the Seaton Crescent and Ricketts Street area of Sav-la-mar and fired a barrage of gunshots at the occupants.

The occupants narrowly missed being killed and called the police. On arrival of the police, a group of armed men opened fire on them and the fire was returned. A gunbattle ensued and the gunmen retreated to a neighboring yard. The police then came upon a trail of blood and they followed the trail which led to the discovery of a Beretta .40 semiautomatic pistol containing 10 live rounds.
