Westmoreland Man Who Severed Baby Mother’s Hand Now in Police Custody

The Westmoreland police are reporting that a man who severed one of his baby mother’s hands during a quarrel in their community of Petersfield, Westmoreland, over the weekend, is now in police custody.

The police have not yet released the identity of the suspect, who they say will be charged for the crime committed against his 21-year-old baby mother, Ashley Riley, also of Shrewsbury district in Petersfield.

Reports indicate that Riley, who is a vendor at Petersfield High School, was viciously attacked around 11:00 a.m. during a dispute with the accused man, who also operates a shop and bar in the area.

Community members say Riley and her child’s father live in separate houses in the community, but they became involved in an argument, allegedly over a cellphone, during which she used a stone to smash a glass window of his house.

The accused then chased his baby mother and used a machete to chop her several times, severing one of her hands.

Riley was taken to the Savanna-la-mar hospital, where she was treated and admitted in critical condition. Following this, the police were contacted, and the accused was subsequently arrested.
