West Indies Sweep Test Series against Bangladesh

Jamaica Sports News, Kingston: West Indies cricketers are celebrating their series win against Bangladesh, after winning the second test by 166 runs within 3 days at Sabina Park on Saturday.

Resuming their second innings from 19-1 overnight, the West Indies were dismissed for 129.

This was due mainly to some good bowling from captain Shakib Al Hasan, who picked up 6 wickets for 33 runs. It was his18th five-wicket haul in Tests and second against West Indies and was also the best figure for a Bangladesh bowler on tour.

Roston Chase top scored with 32, Shimron Hetmeyer and Kieran Powell each contributed 18 and Devon Smith got 16.

Set a victory target of 335, the visitors found themselves in early trouble and at the tea break they were 52 for 3.

Bangladesh was eventually dismissed for 168 in 42 overs, thanks to some superb bowling from West Indies captain Jason Holder, who registered his best bowling performance, 6 for 59 from 13 overs.

This was Holder’s third Test career five-wicket haul after taking 5-44 in the first innings, to end with match figures of 11-103, which is now the best match figure by a West Indies captain in a home series.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan top scored for Bangladesh with 54 from 81 balls and there were useful knocks from Liton Das 33 and Mushfiqur Rahim 31.

Final Scores: West Indies 354 & 129; Bangladesh 149 & 168.

The West Indies have now moved into eighth place, one better than Bangladesh,  on the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings.
