Spanish Town, Jamaica — Keith ‘Neeko’ Newman, a man wanted in connection with multiple murders, including the fatal shooting of two teenage boys in December, was shot and killed by police during an alleged shoot-out early this morning in March Pen, Spanish Town.
Reports are that around 3:40 a.m., a police team confronted Newman in the March Pen area, leading to an exchange of gunfire during which he was fatally wounded.
Newman had been on the police’s wanted list for the murder of Adrian Hinds, also known as ‘Shoppy,’ on October 12, 2024, in Stony Hill. He was also sought for the December 12, 2024, murders of 16-year-old Nicquan Whitely, a former Meadowbrook High student, and 14-year-old Jumaane Henry, formerly of Oberlin High School. The two boys were killed along Airy Castle Road in Stony Hill, St Andrew.
Additionally, Newman was wanted for the shooting of a man on February 10, 2025, along Long Lane near Red Gyal Ring in St Andrew.
Police report that Newman’s alleged arch-rival, Orville ‘Marvin’ Dennie, who was also wanted for murder, was fatally shot by a police team on February 11 in St Thomas.
Newman’s death marks the 46th fatal police shooting since the start of the year. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified of this morning’s incident.
Authorities believe the deaths of Dennie and Newman may alleviate the gang-related violence that has troubled the Stony Hill community in recent months. A 48-hour curfew was imposed in the Airy Castle Road area starting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney of the St Andrew North Division stated that the police are determined to apprehend wanted individuals, regardless of their attempts to evade capture. “We are committed to reducing crime and violence in the St Andrew North Division and reassuring the citizens,” Sweeney said.
