MONTEGO BAY, ST JAMES — It was a night of history, music, and emotions as dancehall legend Vybz Kartel was officially crowned King of Dancehall at Reggae Sumfest 2025 during a fiery performance at Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, on Festival Night One.
Returning to the Reggae Sumfest stage for the first time since 2011, Kartel delivered an electrifying set that left thousands of fans chanting his name and waving banners as fireworks lit up the sky.
The crown was presented by fellow artiste Spice, who declared:
“On behalf of the music fraternity… we are here to crown the legend, Adidjah Azim Palmer. All hail the King of Dancehall!”
A visibly emotional Kartel responded:
“It’s a joy fi siddung ya so inna me owna country… God is the greatest… unuh do it.”
The Gaza boss ran through a string of hits, reaffirming his dominance in the genre and thrilling the sold-out crowd. This performance also marked Kartel’s first major Jamaican show since his triumphant Freedom Street concert in Kingston late last year, and it followed a string of sold-out international appearances in New York, Miami, and London.
Montego Bay came alive as chants of “World Boss” echoed through the venue, with fans calling the moment “legendary” and “well deserved.”
Social media erupted in praise, with clips of the performance trending on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Reggae Sumfest continues through the weekend, but Kartel’s coronation has already been etched in the festival’s history books.
