ST ANDREW, Jamaica — A man believed to be a parent was shot dead on Friday morning outside the gates of Rousseau Primary School in St Andrew.
The incident occurred between 8:30 am and 9:00 am, just as the man had arrived to drop off at least three children, all of whom were present and witnessed the murder.
According to reports, the children, who had been in the vehicle with the man, hurriedly exited the car and fled in different directions during the gun attack. Witnesses also reported that vendors operating near the school gates scattered as gunshots rang out.
Fortunately, the majority of students, who had already entered their classrooms for the school day, did not witness the traumatic event.
Before 10:00 am, parents began receiving urgent alerts through WhatsApp groups to pick up their children, as school was promptly closed for the remainder of the day. The closure was part of the school’s response to ensure the safety of students after the horrific shooting.
In a statement to the press, the police confirmed that they are currently processing the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.
This marks the second shooting at the school this academic year. In October, another parent was killed on the school grounds, raising concerns over the safety of the institution and its surrounding community.
As of now, the identity of the victim has not been officially released, and no suspects have been apprehended. Authorities continue to appeal for any witnesses or information related to the shooting.
