Usain Bolt, in partnership with sponsor Puma, has donated J$5 million each to St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and his alma mater William Knibb Memorial High in Trelawny to support recovery following Hurricane Melissa
Both schools were heavily damaged when the Category 5 storm struck Jamaica in late October.
At STETHS in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, extensive structural damage was reported. The Grade 11 block, used by students preparing for CSEC exams, lost its roof entirely. Roofs of Grades 7 and 9, the principal’s and teachers’ cottages, the athletes’ dorms, a section of the perimeter wall, and the spectator stands were also severely damaged.
Meanwhile, at William Knibb Memorial High, seven buildings sustained damage, six of them severe, including complete roof loss.
Since turning professional, Bolt has consistently supported William Knibb, providing gear, equipment, and assistance to local schools and organizations. Within days of Hurricane Melissa, the Trelawny native sent a team to assess the damage in his hometown and surrounding areas to help guide recovery efforts.
