Officers from C-TOC and the Major Organized Crime Agency (MOCA) engaged a group of heavily armed men in Negril, Westmoreland, on Friday morning, resulting in the fatal shooting of four alleged gunmen and the seizure of six illegal firearms.
The Westmoreland police reported that they acted on intelligence indicating that heavily armed men intended to rob an armored car. The police staged several roadblocks along sections of Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril.
During the operation, the police intercepted a Nissan Tiida motor car, a Toyota Voxy bus, and another vehicle. The occupants of these vehicles immediately opened fire and sped off, leading to a heated gun battle.

The chase ended at the rear of a Burger King fast food outlet in Negril square. Three of the gunmen drove their Nissan motor car to the pier and crashed it into the sea. They continued firing at the police, who returned fire, fatally shooting two of the men and injuring another.
The police also intercepted two men traveling in the Toyota Voxy bus. These men also opened fire and were subsequently fatally shot by the police.
The gunmen traveling in the third vehicle managed to escape and are currently being sought by the police.
The operation resulted in the recovery of six illegal firearms: three high-powered rifles, a 9mm pistol, and a .38 revolver, along with several assorted rounds of ammunition.
The incident is under investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM).
