ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Two members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force have been convicted of soliciting and accepting a bribe and are now awaiting sentencing in the St Catherine Parish Court.
Constables Marlon Hamilton and Romaine Boothe were found guilty during proceedings held on Tuesday. The court extended their bail in the sum of $650,000 each until April 9, when sentencing is scheduled.
Evidence presented outlined that on August 13, 2023, both officers were on duty along the Nelson Mandela Highway when they reportedly observed a motor vehicle being towed. The complainant was allegedly approached and asked to pay $3,000, which was handed over.
The incident was subsequently reported to the Inspectorate of Professional Standards Oversight Bureau. An investigation was launched, leading to the charging of the two constables, who were assigned to the St Catherine South Division.
Sentencing is expected to take place next month.
