Police in St Catherine have charged two men following the break-in of a retail store in Angels, Spanish Town, during which electronic devices valued at more than $2 million were stolen.
The accused are 46-year-old Franklin Grosse of Mandeville, Manchester, and 40-year-old Ronaldo Murray of Farm Pen, Savannah-la-Mar, Westmoreland. They face charges including larceny, housebreaking, conspiracy to housebreaking, and conspiracy to larceny. A court date is currently being arranged.
According to police reports, the owner of a store located at Angels Plaza secured the premises and left on the night of January 16. Hours later, at about 3:00 a.m. on January 17, the proprietor was alerted by a security company that the establishment had been breached.
Investigations revealed that a glass door had been smashed to gain entry. Closed-circuit television footage was later reviewed, showing two men entering the store and removing several electronic items before escaping in a waiting motor vehicle.
The stolen items were listed as 59 smartphones, 11 tablets, and six laptop computers, with an estimated value exceeding $2 million.
Further analysis of the surveillance footage led investigators to identify and apprehend the suspects. They were formally charged on Saturday, January 24, following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of their attorney.
Police investigations into the matter have since concluded.
