KINGSTON, Jamaica — The St Andrew North police seized two illegal firearms and arrested two men in separate operations on Tuesday as they continue their crackdown on illegal guns and crime in the division.
In the first incident, lawmen seized a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm pistol, along with several rounds of ammunition, at a premises on Grants Pen Drive in Grants Pen. One man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
Later, during another operation at a premises on Manor Drive in Cassava Piece, police recovered a .22 pistol and arrested another suspect.
Both operations involved members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) working alongside the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).
Superintendent Randy Sweeney, head of the division, said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to make communities safer. He also revealed that several other individuals were detained and are currently being processed.
“We remain committed to ridding our streets of guns, gangs, and wanted men,” Sweeney said, while urging residents to continue supporting the police with information.
The police reported that more than a dozen illegal firearms have been seized in the St Andrew North Division since the start of the year.
