BETHEL TOWN, Westmoreland — Two brothers were shot and killed during an early morning confrontation with the police on Thursday in the community of Bethel Town.
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Jaeden Love and 23-year-old Jhordon Love, both of Hermitage District, also in Westmoreland.
According to police reports, the incident occurred sometime after 5:00 a.m. Law enforcement officials say the brothers were engaged in a confrontation with members of the security forces, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.
Two 9-millimetre firearms — a CZ pistol and a Girzon pistol — were reportedly recovered from the scene. The weapons were said to be affixed with magazines containing three and one round, respectively.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified and is expected to conduct a full probe into the circumstances surrounding the double fatal shooting.
The deaths of the Love brothers bring the total number of fatal police shootings since the start of 2025 to 154, according to INDECOM data — a staggering 129% increase compared to the same period last year, when 67 individuals were killed up to June 19.
So far, 18 fatal police shootings have been recorded in June alone
