Trial Set for Man Accused of Public Mischief

A man will have to face trial on July 10 for denying giving a statement to a police officer after he reported a case of wounding intent against another man.

Dalton Gordon, who hails from St. James, made a brief appearance before the St. James Parish Court Monday morning to answer to a charge of creating public mischief.

The prosecution is alleging that sometime in 2012, Gordon went to the police and made a report that he was shot in the belly by another man. The man had been on the run and was not arrested until sometime in 2014 and charged with wounding with intent.

When the matter went before the court, Gordon indicated that he did not give the investigating officer a statement, and as a result, he was charged.

During Monday’s court proceedings, presiding judge Kaysha Grant set the matter for trial on July 10 and Gordons’s bail was extended.
