RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning claimed the life of a man from Trelawny, identified as Daniel McFarlane of Rio Bueno. The fatal crash occurred along the Salem main road in Runaway Bay, near the Jewels Hotel.
According to reports, McFarlane was driving a white Toyota Mark X when the vehicle collided with a black Toyota Crown. The impact of the collision was severe, causing McFarlane’s car to burst into flames shortly after the crash. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, McFarlane succumbed to the injuries sustained in the fiery accident.
The driver of the Toyota Crown survived the collision and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Salem main road, which is often busy with both local and tourist traffic, was temporarily closed as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and clear the wreckage.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. As they work to determine the cause of the crash, the St Ann police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
This latest accident adds to a growing number of road fatalities in the parish, highlighting the ongoing issue of road safety in Jamaica.
