Top M Records takes over Montego Bay

Newly established recording label, Top Music Records (TMR), has been making big moves since the company’s evolution on the music scene in January 2021.

Up-and-coming artiste such as Jah Dale, Rhemii Ice and Vandalize are two of the many aspiring artistes who have been recording with the label, Top M Records and is now making great progress while creating a buzz around their careers on streaming platforms such as YouTube and other social media sites.

 

Our news team at Mckoy’s News caught up with CEO and Owner of Top M Records, Mr. Antonio Mckoy, for an exclusive interview recently. He detailed how his connection for music and being an executive producer in the field merged and is creating a “revolutionized aura around the sounds and beats of nowadays music.”

“I am deeply involved in music and I actually invest a lot in beats. As a recording label that is affiliated with a lot of different artistes, one of my main focuses is investing in beats because [I realized] that a lot of artistes don’t have access to proper rhythms. I have over 130 beats and one of my beat makers recently informed me that he’ll be delivering two (2) more beats today;” the proud CEO pointed out.

In addition to music and beats production, Mr. Mckoy also made sure to highlight that, Top M Records does not only provide an opportunity for young-rising and established artistes to expose their talents on good beats but the company also provides them with a full package which consist of marketing, networking, legal registration of artistes’ work and a great deal of exposure.

“We [Top M Records] manage Artistes, produce beats, we do distribution and we are heavily involved in the business of music; meaning, every artiste that we affiliated with (whether directly or indirectly), we help them to get registered, (those that are not registered) and we also do marketing and video production for our artistes. A part of our marketing strategy is submitting our artistes’ music to various platforms that will give them the opportunity to have their music enter into games, movies and other apps;” Mckoy revealed.

In agreement, one of the aforementioned artistes, Jah Dale, concurred the statements his boss, Mckoy, shared and even expressed to Mckoy’s News how grateful he is to be working under such label, that caters to every aspect of his musical career.

“It’s a joy working with Top M! He [Antonio Mckoy] is a good producer and he is travelling with me on my journey right now and he’s doing a lot for me and I really appreciate the time that he is spending with my career;” expressed Jah Dale.

Furthermore, the TMR boss boastfully added that, in addition to catering to such wide areas in order to get all his artistes to the ‘top’ of the music industry, he delves deeper into providing them with a full support system and staff who will personally assist them with the ‘PR aspects of their careers.’

“We now have an internal PR person that will be dedicating her time to the artistes. We are putting together a very comprehensive team that is going to revolutionize the whole music industry of Jamaica. Top M Records aims to be like an international recording label…Sometimes, the artiste doesn’t know the deep background work that the label is doing [because] some artiste just wants to be in the hype and in the now; but we [TMR] are not about the ‘now’ we are about the ‘future.’ So, we are building something very tangible that’s gonna allow these artistes to be very great;” Antonio further added while beaming with pride.

Top M Records (TMR), is a name that Mckoy says will soon be on the lips of everyone, not only locally but also internationally as the company’s progress has been rapidly increasing and established music practitioners and producers globally has been expressing their interests in becoming a part of one of “Montego Bay’s best recording label.’’

“Recently, I have people contacting me from [several] different countries; Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Dominica, America; we just recorded two (2) songs for an artiste in Georgia, USA. One of Top M Recording artiste…Ali Zanele, she’s based in New York, was a part of an established recording label in New York and is now signed to our label. So, we are doing great things! Pretty soon, we are looking forward to own our own recording studio as we are currently recording with various studios but our studio is presently being built;” Mckoy stated.

In this same breath, Mckoy was quick to highlight that a massive part of TMR’s progress will see them joining forces with other major media entities as well as merging and expanding TMR with his other media groups, ‘Mckoy’s News Network’ and ‘Dancehall Hub Media.’

“We realized that music needs a lot of publicity and marketing so we are working on Top M being a part of Mckoy’s News (my major umbrella news company for all major happenings), Dancehall Hub Media (which will be very involved in all digital forms of media) and Portmore Times, (which is another news entity I’m working on) …We are also launching a newspaper that is going to be dedicated to the whole dancehall culture because Jamaica is dancehall! Right now, there is no news entity/medium that’s dedicated to a 100% dancehall…So a newspaper for that will be coming out soon;” an excited Antonio Mckoy revealed to our news team during his exclusive interview.

The Montegonian business mogul said despite his love and commitment for his other areas of businesses, the natural desire and passion for music is what gave birth to this brilliant concept, Top M Records, which he says is growing into a ‘global phenomena.’

“I’m a lover of music…It doesn’t matter the genre…I believe music is life! Music changes your mood and I have always wanted to get into music. Even though I don’t play an instrument or physically sit down and build beats, for someone who owns over 130 beats and continues to invest in beats and production…producing artistes all over the world, I would say at this point, this is a great passion of mine and it will drive us very far;” the Top M Record label boss, summarized.

Mckoy also clearly noted that, Top M Records is open to signing and recording all artistes from all genres, locally and internationally; he said the company ‘is not restricted by its geographical location.’ Some of the established artistes who the CEO said have recorded songs under the TMR label are international female artiste Ali Zanele who is based in New York and local fast-rising artiste Lyrically Badd; who Mr. Mckoy revealed has recently released new music under the TMR label and has more upcoming projects with the recording label as well. Some of the other aspiring artistes who are successfully creating magic through music under this label are namely, Jah Dale, Sassi SS, Black Frass, Rhemii Ice, Cheeky Grange and Vandalize; just to name a few. In addition to the company’s accessibility and not being constrained by its physical location, Top M boss said he has also invested and owns beats/rhythms from all genres such as Hip Hop, Jazz, Reggae, Dancehall and a variety of other rhythms which was deliberately chosen to provide all artistes with a diverse choice to suit their versatility and provide youths with a platform to become great musical icons.

“We are not gonna be defined by any one particular sound…If you go on Top M beats on YouTube, you’ll be amazed with the different sounds that’s there right now. Top M Records aims to be the main entity that’s going to build artistes into great men and women. We are willing to take that risk to give youths the opportunity to become what they want to be in terms of their artistic skills and musical career;” stated Mckoy.

He also highlighted that Top M Records is geared mainly towards assisting and ‘giving a buss’ to the aspiring artistes who are in need of assistance to get their musical career going.

Transparency is very important in all businesses and the Top M CEO told our news team that this will be the distinguish feature which sets them apart from all other recording labels. He happily welcomes all producers, affiliates in the music industry, artistes who wish to join forces with TMR, to come on board.

“We are very open, so if we are gonna do business, we’re very blunt…We believe in transparency so whatever we discuss that’s what we are gonna do. So, artistes, producers or anyone who wants to work with us, they are gonna experience total transparency and I think that is what’s gonna set us apart from other recording label;” revealed Mckoy.

   In his closing words with the Mckoy’s News team, the TMR boss left a few words of encouragement not only to artistes but the general public.
