MANCHESTER, Jamaica— In a disturbing rise of violence, a man was shot and killed in Christiana, Manchester, on Wednesday night, bringing the number of murders in the parish to three within a span of just 24 hours. The deceased, identified as 29-year-old carpenter Romario White, a resident of Silent Hill, was gunned down in a bar shortly before 8:00 PM.
According to police reports, White was inside the establishment when an assailant entered, drew a firearm, and opened fire without warning. He was rushed to Percy Junor Hospital in Spalding, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
This latest incident follows the brutal slaying of two men at a bar in Bottom Albion, Manchester, on Tuesday night, sparking widespread concern about the rising crime wave in the area.
Councillor David Knight, of the People’s National Party and the Walderston division, expressed his deep concern over the escalating violence, noting the brazen nature of the attacks. “I am really concerned about the criminal activities, the shootings and murders that are taking place in Manchester,” Knight said.
The councillor was particularly disturbed by the proximity of Wednesday’s shooting to the Christiana police station, saying it highlighted the audacity of criminals in the area. “Very close to the police station, somebody went into a bar and just opened fire. These criminals have no heart. They will go anywhere for you, and we are not safe.”
Knight urged residents to come forward with any information that could assist in the apprehension of the perpetrators. “Now families are grieving for their loved ones, and I am appealing to those who saw or know something to tell the police. Criminals must be brought to justice.”
As Manchester grapples with the surge in violence, Knight issued a broader plea, warning that communities cannot continue to live in fear. “We can’t continue on this rampage. We can’t continue to not feel safe anywhere we go,” he stressed.
The police are currently investigating the motives behind the killings and are appealing to the public for assistance. However, the recent spike in murders has left many residents anxious about their safety, as authorities work to curb the growing wave of violence in the parish.
