A well-known local attraction was targeted by thieves who made off with a variety of exotic animals, including four Jamaican boa constrictors, three baby crocodiles, a macaw, other rare birds, and even a monkey.
The theft has left authorities and staff at the attraction on high alert as efforts to recover the stolen wildlife intensify.
According to the attraction’s operator, the robbers appeared to be experts in handling animals, bypassing the facility’s surveillance systems and managing to remove the creatures without causing alarm. “This wasn’t an ordinary thief. The person who did this clearly collects animals,” said the owner, who chose to remain anonymous due to security concerns.
The criminals reportedly broke through locks and navigated the premises with ease, suggesting they had prior knowledge of the layout and the habits of the animals. “To pick up a macaw is no easy task – those birds can severely injure a person if handled incorrectly,” the owner noted, highlighting the thieves’ apparent expertise in dealing with exotic wildlife.
Authorities suspect the animals were stolen for sale on the black market, rather than for personal use. The operator believes the theft was premeditated, with the animals likely being “ordered” by someone involved in the illicit wildlife trade. “There’s a market for this. They didn’t take them to keep as pets,” the owner added.
This is not the first time the attraction has experienced theft, though previous incidents involved smaller-scale losses such as parrots. However, the magnitude of this latest heist is unprecedented, both in terms of the value and the number of animals taken.
Despite the devastating incident, the attraction remains open to the public. Staff members have been welcoming visitors as usual since Sunday while working closely with the police to solve the case and recover the stolen animals.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
