TRELAWNY, Jamaica – A 49-year-old taxi operator has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 61-year-old landscaper in Deeside, Trelawny. Kayan Williams, of Bounty Hall, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving after surrendering to the Trelawny police on Monday, March 17th, accompanied by his attorney.
The incident occurred on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, and resulted in the death of Balford Green, also known as “Luie,” of Blackwin, Deeside.
According to police reports, at approximately 7:00 PM, Green was walking along the left side of the Hammersmith roadway when he was struck by a vehicle. He sustained multiple injuries and was transported to the Falmouth Public General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, Trelawny police issued a public appeal for information regarding the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run. Williams subsequently surrendered to authorities.
Williams is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
