TAJ Expands Saturday Operations to Every Parish to Enhance Taxpayer Convenience

In a move aimed at easing the tax payment process and boosting revenue collections, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will extend its weekend services to select tax offices in every parish across the island. The decision was announced by Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Fayval Williams, during her presentation at the opening of the 2025/26 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Currently, TAJ offers weekend services on the last Saturday of each month at select locations. However, in response to growing taxpayer feedback and the need for more flexible service hours, the initiative will now see tax offices open on Saturdays in every parish. “We will announce those dates, as those offices are open in every parish across Jamaica… We should make it as easy as possible for Jamaicans to pay their taxes,” Williams stated.

While approximately 80 per cent of TAJ’s revenue is generated through online services, the Finance Minister acknowledged that not all taxpayers have transitioned to digital platforms. “While we strongly encourage the use of our online access, we recognise that it takes time for some people to fully embrace the online world. That is why I asked the Commissioner of Taxes to open a tax office in every parish on a Saturday—to ease the congestion during the week and make it more accessible for all,” she added.

The expansion of Saturday operations is expected to reduce wait times and provide additional opportunities for Jamaicans to complete their financial transactions, ultimately contributing to an increase in revenue collections. The decision underscores the government’s commitment to listening to its citizens and adapting services to meet their needs. “We are a Government that listens; we are a Government that cares, and having a tax office open in every parish on a Saturday is good news,” Williams emphasized.

As TAJ prepares to roll out this new initiative, the agency is poised to enhance its service delivery while ensuring that more Jamaicans can conveniently access tax-related services. The move marks another step in modernizing the nation’s tax administration and reinforcing the government’s efforts to foster a more inclusive financial environment.
