PORT ANTONIO, Jamaica – A 23-year-old cashier, Jada Lindsay of Mount Pleasant in Hope Bay, was arrested on Monday, March 10, and charged with larceny as a servant and fraudulent conversion after allegedly pocketing several months’ worth of rent money collected on behalf of her employer.
According to Port Antonio police, Lindsay, who worked at a business establishment on West Street, collected rent from tenants between December 2024 and January 2025. Instead of remitting the funds to her employer, she is accused of diverting the money for her personal expenses. When confronted by the complainant, Lindsay reportedly admitted to using the funds for her own needs.
An internal audit of the store revealed that January 2025 sales were short by $88,000, a discrepancy that prompted the complaint and subsequent police investigation. The accused was not authorised to use the funds, and the misappropriation led to her arrest following a question-and-answer interview by law enforcement personnel.
Her court date is currently being finalised. Authorities have reiterated the need for businesses to maintain strict financial controls to prevent such incidents and have urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to financial transactions.
