Suspected Shooter in Cherry Tree Lane Massacre Killed in Police Operation

Clarendon, Jamaica – Steve Smith, also known as ‘Thicka’ or ‘Fly Brain,’ one of the men suspected to be involved in Sunday’s horrific mass killing on Cherry Tree Lane, was shot and killed by security forces during an operation in Clarendon this afternoon.

Smith, who was believed to be a key player in multiple contract killings and other serious criminal activities across Clarendon and surrounding parishes, was the target of an intensive manhunt following the massacre that claimed eight lives and left at least nine others injured.

According to police reports, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, along with the Clarendon Operational Support team, were conducting a targeted operation in Osbourne Store, Clarendon, on Wednesday when they located Smith and other suspects linked to the Cherry Tree Lane attack. During the operation, a confrontation ensued, resulting in Smith being shot and injured. He was subsequently transported to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police have indicated that Smith was not only involved in the recent mass shooting but was also a suspect in several other contract killings and illicit activities within the region. His death is seen as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to crack down on violent crime in Clarendon.

The incident has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which will conduct its own review of the circumstances surrounding Smith’s death.
