Anthoneil McNeil, the man accused of Saturday’s fatal shooting of 16-year-old Tara Alecia Dennis, has been taken into police custody, confirmed the Westmoreland police. McNeil, who is reported to be Dennis’ ex-boyfriend, surrendered himself to authorities on Sunday following the tragic incident that claimed Dennis’ life and injured 38-year-old Derron Stewart.
According to Deputy Superintendent Shaunjaye Mitchell, commanding officer for the Negril Police Division, McNeil will undergo questioning and likely face charges later today. The shooting occurred in Little London, Westmoreland, at approximately 2:15 am on Saturday morning. Dennis, a 16-year-old waitress from Grant Bush, was shot while sitting on her verandah with her male companion, identified as a 38-year-old mechanic.
Reports from the police suggest that Dennis had just finished her shift and was on her way home from work when she disembarked from transportation at the Little London square and met her male companion. The man then accompanied her on foot to her residence.
The incident is believed to have arisen from a love triangle, highlighting the tragic consequences of domestic disputes. Dennis’ death has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting authorities to take swift action in apprehending the suspect.
As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of the young teen and awaits justice for the senseless violence that claimed her life.
