Summer Blast 2020 For Teenagers in Grades10-13

The Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Benbow, Guy’s Hill, St Catherine, Jamaica West Indies has partnered with an International Flagship Institution in the Caribbean in offering a new and exciting programme to the education platform.

SUMMER BLAST 2020 – WHICH PARISHES WILL BENEFIT

The Summer Blast 2020 programme caters to teenagers who are in Grades 10-13 in the secondary school system.  The organizers have informed that this programme; which will last 6 weeks in the Summer from July 13-August 20, 2020 will feature courses to include Tourism and Hospitality Management/THM, Geriatric Nursing/GN (diplomas) and Food and Beverage Services/FBS (certificate). The programme will cater to those 16-19 years in High School in St Catherine, St Mary and St Elizabeth.

HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK AND AT WHAT LEVELS

For six weeks during the Summer break, students will undergo extensive training, at a cost in the three subject areas as full-time courses.  Once the first 3-4 weeks have been successfully completed, students will be ushered into practicum/work experience at Hotels and Guest Houses for THM and FBS and GN at Nursing Homes and Medical Centres for the required hours.  The 30 year-old educational institution has already secured contracts with these facilities in an effort to ensure that the students gain meaningful experience before completing all the requirements of the course. All three courses are at the Level 2 category international standard.

BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAMME & GRADUATION CEREMONY

As a result of students being given the chance to gain a recession-proof career in 6 weeks in the Summer, it will mean that students will be qualified to work in the areas of specialization immediately upon a planned Graduation Ceremony for August 30, 2020.  Some students would then return to school being a graduate of such a programme and can gain employment in the Hotel or Nursing Industry on weekends or evenings after school.  This will allow students to be able to assist parents/guardians in providing lunch money, bus fare and personal savings. The Organizers would also hope that with this qualification in high school, it would make returning students more focused in preparing for CSEC and CAPE examinations.  The institution is proud that it has maintained in the three decades of existence, 100% passes in all final examinations.

The institution boasts of being the first registered practical nursing institution in Jamaica, the institution (former founder and principal) to have written the practical nursing curriculum for Jamaica, super and massive discounts, weekly payment plan.
