State of Emergency Declared in Trinidad and Tobago

Port of Spain, Trinidad – The twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago has declared a state of emergency.

In an official statement released early Monday, the administration of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley announced that President Christine Carla Kangaloo, acting on the Prime Minister’s advice, has declared a state of public emergency.

This decision was made based on the advice of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to the National Security Council, citing a significant increase in criminal activity that poses a serious threat to public safety.

The details of the state of emergency, including its specific measures and duration, will be outlined in a press briefing later today hosted by National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds and Acting Attorney General Stuart Young.
