Jamaica Crime News, St Mary: A St Mary Man who was serving 25 years to life for killing his 2-year-old grandniece in the year 2013, had his sentence reduced by the Court of appeal on Tuesday, June 12.
Reports by the St Mary police are that on October 30, 2013, 2-year-old Eshauna Gardener was left in the care of her granduncle, Clive Barrett.
Barrett, who was also on Parole for murder, reportedly used a blunt instrument to inflict a wound to the Child’s head which resulted in her death.
He was arrested and charged and in the year 2016, he was sentenced to 25 years to life. His Attorney at the time argued the sentence saying that it was too excessive, but the court allowed the sentencing to remain.
The matter was brought before the Court of Appeal and on Tuesday, they made a ruling and reduced Barrett’s sentence to 9 years.
