Mother Earth isn’t done shaking things up in the Eastern Caribbean. Just three days after a 4.0 magnitude earthquake rocked St Lucia, another stronger tremor — this time measuring 4.4 — struck the region on Sunday night, leaving residents on edge.
The Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) confirmed that the quake occurred at approximately 8:51 p.m., at a depth of 15 kilometers, and was felt as far as:
- 31 km south of Fort-de-France, Martinique
- 112 km south-southeast of Roseau, Dominica
Fortunately, no injuries or structural damage have been reported from this latest quake.
The recent seismic activity follows a similar event last Thursday, when St Lucia was also rattled by a 4.0 magnitude quake. That tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km and was felt:
- 70 km east of Kingstown, the capital of St Vincent and the Grenadines
- 110 km west of Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados
Residents across the region have raised concerns over the back-to-back tremors, although officials continue to monitor the situation and urge the public to remain calm.
