St. Ann, Jamaica — A 35-year-old farmer from Golden Grove, St. Ann has been charged with murder following the death of one-year-old Alayah Michaels, who died under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday, April 1.
The accused, Adain Joseph, was reportedly entrusted with the care of the infant by her mother on Tuesday, March 27, 2025. According to police reports, around 8:30 a.m. on April 1, Joseph took the unresponsive child to a local health center, claiming she became unresponsive while being bathed.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to resuscitate the child, Alayah remained unresponsive and was later transported to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Following her death, detectives launched an in-depth investigation. A post-mortem examination conducted on Thursday, April 3, revealed that Alayah died from blunt force trauma to the head.
In the course of the investigation, Joseph reportedly confessed to the crime and was subsequently charged with murder.
His court date is yet to be determined.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the St. Ann community, as residents and relatives mourn the tragic loss of young Alayah.
