Jamaica Crime News, St Ann: Our news team has learnt that, the two St Ann cops who were taken into custody twelve days ago, after a female filed a sexual harassment report on them has now been officially charged.
The two officers, Constable George Richards and District Constable Andre Hailett, were both charged with sexual harassment, following a ruling which was handed down by the Director of Public Prosecution Office (DPP ) on Friday, June 1, 2018.
Both officers who were taken into custody in the regions of May 21st, we’re stationed at the Runaway Bay Police Station. On the night of that same day they reportedly held a female in the community and alleged sexually assaulted her.
A report was made and both men were immediately taken into custody and a file sent to the DPP’s office in Kingston.
After they appeared in Court on Friday, their lawyer Peter McHugh indicated to the judge that, his clients were in lock-up for more than a week without being charged.
The judge then made a ruling that if they were not charged by Friday midday, they should be released.
Constable Richards and District Constable Hailett were brought before the St Ann Parish Court on Friday afternoon where they were both granted bail in the sum of $300,000 each.
Both accused are book to reappear in court on September 5th.
