A police constable assigned to the St Ann Division is now before the courts after being formally charged in connection with an alleged bribery scheme uncovered during a sting operation earlier this month.
The accused, Constable Andrew Allydice, faces charges of corruptly soliciting a benefit, corruptly accepting a benefit, and misconduct in a public office. The charges were filed after a ruling from Jamaica’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Allydice, who has remained in custody since his arrest, is scheduled to appear in the St Ann Parish Court.
Investigators report that the case stems from an interaction on April 10, when a motorist visited a police station seeking documentation to recover a vehicle that had been impounded following a collision. During that encounter, the constable allegedly requested a payment of $250,000 to facilitate the process.
According to law enforcement sources, the motorist indicated he would need time to gather the funds. However, instead of complying, he reportedly contacted the Inspectorate and Professional Standard Oversight Bureau (IPROB) and filed a formal complaint.
Authorities then coordinated a controlled operation after the constable allegedly agreed to accept a reduced sum of $230,000. The meeting was arranged for April 20 at the police station.
Reports indicate that the motorist returned with marked currency concealed in an envelope and was taken into an office by the officer. Shortly after, IPROB personnel entered the room and detained the constable.
The matter is now before the court as investigations continue.
