The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport has extended the deadline for submission of proposals for the Fit for Life Community Sport Development Initiative.
The initiative provides grant funding of $500,000 to each Member of Parliament to jumpstart holistic efforts to promote physical activities and sport at the grassroots level.
Portfolio Minister, Hon. Olivia Grange, who was addressing Wednesday’s (March 6) meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, whose members are reviewing the 2024/25 Estimates of Expenditure, said to date, only six Members of Parliament have taken up the offer.
The original deadline was March 1.
The grant will be accessible through the Sports Development Foundation (SDF), following the successful submission of a proposal detailing the community sport development project to be undertaken.
Grant proposals must identify how community members will benefit from the initiatives and the methods that will be employed to document and track the impact of the investment.
Earlier this year, Minister Grange told the House of Representatives that as a member of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Activity and Sport, Jamaica must demonstrate its commitment to promoting Fit for Life.
Fit for Life is UNESCO’s sport-based flagship, designed to accelerate COVID-19 recovery, support inclusive and integrated policymaking, and enhance the well-being of youth around the world.
