MONTEGO BAY, St James — JSix Cuban nationals — four men and two women — were taken into police custody on Sunday evening after arriving illegally in Jamaica by boat. The group came ashore at Harvey Beach in Rose Hall, St James, sparking renewed attention on the growing wave of Caribbean migration.
Senior Superintendent of Police Eron Samuels, head of the St James Police Division, confirmed the arrests. He said the individuals will be processed by the relevant authorities, though no official decision on their fate had been announced up to press time.
The Cubans reportedly made the dangerous crossing aboard a small vessel, part of a growing trend of undocumented migrants seeking refuge or using Jamaica as a transit point amid worsening conditions in their home countries.
The government is expected to release a statement today regarding the future of the six migrants. Their case could re-ignite debate around Jamaica’s immigration policies and its evolving role in the regional migration crisis.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
