Jamaica Crime News, St Mary: 48-year-old Hugh Bennett, a shopkeeper of Bailey Vale district in Port Maria, St Mary, is the last victim to be murdered in the parish in the year 2018.

Bennett was chopped to death by unknown assailants, while at his home in Bailey Vale on Monday morning, December 31.

Reports by the Port Maria Police are that about 2:00 a.m. on Monday,  residents living in Bailey Vale overheard loud cries for help coming from the directions of Bennett’s home and went to investigate.

Upon arriving at the house, they discovered the shop operator lying in a pool of blood in a room of his house, with multiple chop wounds.

The police were summoned and upon arrival, the wounded man was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police say they have reason to believe that robbery may have been the motive for his killing.
