ST JAMES, Jamaica – The St James Police have charged a shopkeeper following an incident on July 27 in St John’s Square, Retirement, where he allegedly assaulted a woman with a firearm.
Thirty-year-old Zania Burke, also known as ‘Fourteen,’ faces multiple charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm with intent to injure, assault at common law, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when Burke allegedly confronted a woman with whom he had an ongoing dispute. According to reports, Burke brandished a handgun, pointed it at the woman, and struck her several times with the weapon.
The victim managed to escape and subsequently reported the assault to the police. The authorities quickly acted on the report, leading to Burke’s arrest and subsequent charges. The investigation is ongoing as the St James Police continue to gather evidence in the case.
