Serena Williams Withdraws from French Open due to Arm Injury

Paris (McKoy’s News) – Serena Williams Withdraws: American Tennis Star, Serena Williams, announced on Monday that she is dropping out of the French Open because of an arm injury. The announcement was made just days following her third-round win against Julia Gorges on Saturday.

“I unfortunately, have been having some issues with my pec muscle and unfortunately it’s been getting worse to the point where right now I can’t actually serve. It’s kind of hard to play when I can’t physically serve,” she said at a Press Conference.

This denotes the first instance Williams pulled out of a Grand Slam competition. On Monday, she was booked to compete with Maria Sharapova who has only two victories against Serena. However, since 2004, Serena won every match played against Sharapova.

The French Open is Williams’ first major since she brought forth her little girl, Alexis Olympia, nine months ago. She faced extreme complexities amid the birth, which required various medical procedures and bed rest.

In her first French Open match on Tuesday beat Kristyna Pliskova in two sets. A couple of days later, Williams confronted Ashleigh Barty, the No. 17 ranked tennis player in the world, and roared back to beat her in the wake of losing the first set. After her win against Gorges on Saturday, she and her sister, Venus, took the court on Sunday to compete in doubles. The sisters were vanquished in three sets by No. 3 seeds Andreja Klepac and Maria Jose Martinez.

Williams has a month to recuperate from her injury and make preparations for the Wimbledon’s Grand Slam competition which begin on July 2. During the Press Conference, she indicated that she is planning to get a scan of her arm, but she will have to wait for results to know if she will compete in the Wimbledon Tournament.
