The sentencing for Portland businessman Everton “Beachy Stout” McDonald and his co-convict Oscar Barnes, who were found guilty in March of murder and conspiracy to murder in the 2020 killing of McDonald’s wife Tonia, has been postponed.
The Supreme Court was originally scheduled to sentence McDonald and Barnes on Thursday morning. However, the hearing experienced a delay because the antecedent report and trial judge Chester Stamp were absent.
The new sentencing date has been set for September 19, 2024.
Tonia suffered a brutal murder on July 20, 2020, on the main road in Sherwood Forest in Portland. Her assailants repeatedly stabbed her, slashed her throat, and set fire to the Toyota Axio motor car she was driving, with her body inside.
McDonald, Tonia’s husband at the time of her murder, was arrested and charged with the killing. Subsequently, Oscar Barnes was apprehended.
Both arrests stemmed from a tip-off to the police indicating that Denvalyn “Bubbla” Minott could offer significant assistance in their investigation into the murder. Upon his arrest at his residence in Portland, Minott confessed to his involvement, claiming that McDonald had contracted him for $3 million to kill his wife.
However, Minott explained that because he couldn’t carry out the crime as instructed — to stab and burn her body — he subcontracted the killing to Oscar Barnes, who, according to Minott’s claim, acted alone in murdering Tonia.
