Jamaican 400m hurdles star Rushell Clayton has officially been added to the roster of athletes competing in the inaugural Grand Slam Track league, set to kick off in 2025. Clayton now joins fellow Jamaicans Ackera Nugent and Roshawn Clarke, who were signed last week, in representing the island on this prestigious global stage.
Clayton, the second fastest Jamaican of all time in the 400m hurdles and the first to break the 53-second barrier since 2011, continues to elevate her career after an impressive fifth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Reflecting on her new opportunity, she expressed both excitement and determination.
“I’ve worked so hard to get to this point and I’m ready to give Grand Slam Track my all in every single race,” Clayton said. “I’m focused and ready to be part of making history. This is just the beginning.”
Grand Slam Track, modeled similarly to the Diamond League, will showcase thrilling match-ups between the top athletes in the sport. The professional track league will host four meets between April and September each year. A total of 48 athletes will be named annually to compete in this exclusive circuit.
Among the standout names already confirmed for 2025 are Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Fred Kerley, Melissa Jefferson, and Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, signaling the immense level of competition that awaits.
With the addition of Clayton, Jamaica’s presence in the inaugural season grows stronger, adding further excitement for track and field fans eager to see these world-class athletes in action.
