Lilliput, St James –A man known as “Rifleman” was shot and killed during a confrontation with security forces early Thursday morning in the community of Lilliput, St James.
Reports indicate that police were conducting an operation in the area around 6:00 a.m. when the fatal encounter occurred.
According to a police source, Rifleman was a known violence producer who had been under police surveillance for some time. Following the incident, law enforcement officers recovered a pistol from his possession.
Rifleman’s death comes just hours after security forces shot and killed two men suspected of being involved in the shooting of two police officers during an attempted robbery at a supermarket on Tuesday.
One suspect was reportedly killed during a shootout in Go Peace Lane, Salt Spring, just after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. A firearm was seized at the scene. Less than an hour later, the second suspect was fatally shot in Albion Lane when he allegedly engaged officers in another confrontation. An additional illegal firearm was also recovered.
Authorities continue their investigations as they intensify operations to curb violent crime in St James.
