The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado has confirmed that the remains of Amanda Leariel Overstreet, a 16-year-old missing since 2005, were found in a freezer in Grand Junction earlier this year. The discovery was made on January 12, 2024, when the new owner of a recently sold home offered the freezer to someone, who then found human remains inside. DNA testing revealed the remains belonged to Overstreet, who was the biological daughter of the home’s previous owner. Authorities stated that there had been no missing person report filed for Overstreet at the time of her disappearance in April 2005.
The home, located on Pinyon Avenue, had been purchased, fully remodeled, and sold to new owners before the discovery. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the current owners have no connection to the case and urged the public to respect their privacy.
The investigation into Overstreet’s death and the circumstances of her disappearance remain ongoing, with further forensic testing underway. Police continue to look into why she was never reported missing and are searching for answers regarding her death.
The case has shocked the Grand Junction community, and investigators are working to uncover more details surrounding the tragic events that led to Overstreet’s untimely death.
